Disney+’s Hawkeye show has been assigned a showrunner, with former Mad men writer Jonathan Igla having been assigned duties as writer and executive producer.As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Igla will be taking on the Jeremy Renner-fronted show that will take place in the MCU and continue to expand the universe’s scope. The show is currently set to stream in the fall of 2021 as part of Marvel’s Phase Four.
Igla wrote six episodes of AMC’s award-winning drama Mad Men between 2010 and 2015, and was also a story editor on 13 episodes in 2013 and executive story editor on a further 14 episodes between 2014 and 2015. Since Mad Men concluded, he’s worked on the Fox show Pitch and Hulu’s Shut Eye among others.
Igla will tackle a story in which Hawkeye trains up a new bow-wielding hero, the popular Kate Bishop, who is also a key character in the Matt Fraction and David Aja Hawkeye comics run from which this Disney+ series takes its logo design.
Disney+ will debut a few Marvel TV projects ahead of Hawkeye; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set for fall 2020, with WandaVision and Loki due the following year. She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight are all due on the streaming service, too.
