Welcome to IGN’s Monster Hunter: World Wiki Guide. This page contains information on the Monster – Kirin
An extremely rare elder dragon, little is known about the Kirin, other than it resembles a Unicorn and envelopes itself in pure electricity, toughening its skin.
EditHow to Unlock Kirin Quests
There are three levels of Kirin you can unlock in Monster Hunter World. Low, High, and Tempered, all with different methods to unlock.
EditLow Rank Kirin
To unlock a low-rank Kirin quest, you must first complete a string of capture quests offered by the Smart Biologist. Find him near Ecological Research, where you go to upgrade your monster research levels. An exclamation point will appear on your Astera map when the biologist has a quest for you. Make sure to visit him every time after you completed a quest for additional rewards.
These are the quests you’ll need to complete to unlock Kirin.
|Snatch the Snatcher||2||Wildspire Waste||Capture Kulu-Ya-Ku|
|Landing the Landslide Wyvern||3||Wildspire Waste||Capture Barroth|
|White Monster White Coat||4||Coral Highlands||Capture Paolumu|
|Man’s Best Friend||5||Rotten Vale||Capture Odogaron|
You will unlock these quests as long as you’ve completed the previous quest in the line, and are able to accept the level of quest.
Once you complete them all, speak to the Smart Biologist again (he’ll have an exclamation point over his head), then speak to the Impatient Biologist near the Botanical Research Cetner, and he’ll give you the 5 Star Kirin quest, Gone in a Flash.
After completing Kirin’s quest, you’ll also unlock the Thunderproof Mantle, which you’ll definitely need when facing Kirin in higher levels.
EditHigh Rank Kirin
Once you reach High Rank, you’ll become familiar with finding materials around maps that belong to Elder Dragons. In the Coral Highlands, the material you’ll find with blue scout flies belongs to Kirin – an optional Elder Dragon.
Pick up enough of this Electrified Fur, and you’ll eventually unlock the optional high-rank quest for Kirin. The Impatient Biologist will gain an exclamation point when he’s ready to give you this quest.
After the story, you’ll find more Tempered Monsters. These are especially difficult fights even more challenging than high-rank. You’ll unlock an Assigned Quest for Tempered Kirin once you have completed the first Assigned Quest posted after the credits roll and reach Hunter Rank 49,
Kirin is kind of a weird fight. Initially it seems like it’s a harmless enough monster. It’s one of, if not the smallest “large monster” of the roster, and this leaves hunters often slipping into complacency. Don’t fall for it! Kirin still packs enough punch to kick you to the cart. Kirin will base its attacks on lightning and is able to summon lighting from above. It should be avoided at all costs.
Bring lots of nullberries, as Thunderblight is no joke. Hit with Thunderblight, you’ll be extremely likely to be paralyzed should you be hit with lightning again, leaving you HIGHLY vulnerable, and this is where Kirin is at his most dangerous.
Also consider bringing the Cleanser Booster, a Hunter’s Tool unlocked by completing the Armory Quest On Nightmare’s Wings. When activated, all you need to do is walk through it to rid yourself of Thunderblight.
Kirin can also become enraged, which you can recognize by its especially electrified nature in which its mane stands up and glows. While in this phase, its skin will become even tougher, causing many weapons to bounce.
Definitely unlock and complete the low-rank Kirin quest in order to earn the Thunderproof mantle to help you in your quest to slay Kirin in higher levels.
To prevent Kirin from powering up with lightning and toughening its skin so often, use weapons with high Elderseal.
